Vans offers to ‘Foot The Bill’
When most of the world was in lockdown during the Corona Virus pandemic, Vans partnered with select skate shops and Vans retailers to allow us to create a pattern that they would put in their Vans Customs generator. This allowed anyone the ability to order a Silo Vans Slip-On off of the Vans site, while sharing the proceeds with the the shops involved.
Recognizing a Pattern
It’s no secret that Vans is known for their iconic checkerboard pattern, so we wanted to play with a more tonal approach. Keeping it subdued and minimal to stay true to the Silo brand, the repeated navy Silo box logo is as small as possible without losing clarity in a check-like pattern. We next gave it some playful movement with a soft blue polka dot, careful to not compete with the existing rectangular check.
After designing the pattern, we collectively chose to keep the whole shoe in the marshmallow white, and opting for a suede heel panel to keep with the classic, elevated look we wanted to achieve. The pattern and color-way created something that felt simple, yet clever. Something that was intriguing, but still felt timeless for the years to come.
